HMRC Halts Sending VAT Penalty Notices to Agents' Homes

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has temporarily stopped sending VAT penalty letters to agents' home addresses due to a system error. The issue arose when several individuals reported receiving their clients' VAT penalty letters at their residential addresses on the online platform Any Answers.

According to an HMRC spokesperson, "A system error has resulted in a small number of VAT penalty letters being sent to an agent's home address instead of their business address. We are working to rectify this problem urgently and apologize for any inconvenience caused."

HMRC has confirmed that it has suspended the sending of further customer penalty letters to agents until the issue is resolved. The tax department is actively working towards a swift resolution of the situation.
